Institutional Review Board

Effective January 1, 2025, the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice Institutional Review Board (Crown IRB) has merged with the Social and Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Board (SBS IRB).   The purpose of this merge is to consolidate IRB work and streamline processes.   

IRB protocol applications are still submitted through AURA.uchicago.edu.  Existing protocols approved by or pending Crown IRB review before January 1 will be routed to Crown IRB forms but NEW protocol submissions will be routed to the SBS IRB application and forms. 

The combined IRBs will be called “Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS IRB)” and the IRB Registration with the federal government is IRB00000333 U of Chicago.  The IRB membership of the committee will be drawn from the current SBS and Crown IRB committees.  Researchers are required to use the SBS IRB name and contact for all new submissions effective January 1, 2025.
