Dean of Students Office & Resources
The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to providing a positive academic experience for all students in the Crown Family School. We believe in a student-first philosophy, and an identity-conscious approach in work, and we offer support, advocacy, and advising--from orientation through graduation, and beyond. Our office manages a number of key initiatives for the school: new student orientation; academic advising and registration; administration of academic and student life policies; career planning and leadership development initiatives; and graduation and commencement activities amongst many others. Dean of Students Office Staff
- Oversees all aspects of the Office of the Dean of Students
- Responsible for the administration and quality of all direct student academic services and general student supports
- Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (IED) programming and advocacy
- Implements policies and processes to support student success
- Offers general student advising and guidance on meaningful initiatives, programs, and organizations that enhance the Crown Family School student experience
- Serves on the Dean's Senior Administrative Staff team for the Crown Family School
- Provides academic advising, tracks individual progress toward degree completion, and offers guidance on course planning for all Master's Degree Students
- Leads major hallmark initiatives such as orientation, course registration, and graduation, among others
- Coordinates the annual Crown Hooding Ceremony and Convocation logistics
- Serves as liason with critical campus partners, such as Student Disability Services, Student Wellness & Counseling, Office of International Affairs, and many more
- Works with students to support them through personal matters and connect them to vital UChicago resources (i.e. health, financial, etc.)
- Provides comprehensive support and resources to PhD students
- Maintains PhD student records and tracks individual progress towards degree completion
- Manages day-to-day operations of PhD program including admissions support, orientation, course advising and registration, professional development, and graduation
- Coordinates the qualifying examination, proposal hearings, and dissertation defenses
- Oversees the recruitment, admission and matriculation of all Crown Family School students
- Supports the work of the faculty Admissions Committee
- Makes initial scholarship determinations in collaboration with the Dean of Students
- Oversees career and leadership development for all Crown Family school students
- Provides career coaching, advising, and counseling for guidance and insight
- Develop tools and resources for leadership development, career experiences and career education
- Provides academic advising, tracks individual progress toward degree completion, and offers guidance on course planning
- for Full-Time SW, Advanced Standing, and SSL students
- Coordinates registration and group advising sessions quarterly
- Manage logistics of New Student Orientation for all Crown Family School students
- Assists with degree conferral and planning for Graduation ceremonies
- Manage the U-Pass program and process
- Assists with the recruitment, admission, and matriculation of all Crown Family School students
- Hosts webinars and campus visits, and travels to graduate recruitment fairs
- Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including counseling newly admitted AM students
- Can provide additional guidance for underrepresented student applicants
- Directs leadership and personal development programs for all students
- Oversees and advises Student Government Association and all registered student organizations (RSOs)
- Coordinates student engagement and community building events
- Assists with the recruitment, admission, and matriculation of all Crown Family School students
- Hosts webinars and campus visits, and travels to graduate recruitment fairs
- Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including counseling newly admitted AM students
- Can provide additional guidance for underrepresented student applicants
- Coordinates budget and financial management activities for the Dean of Students' office in the Crown Family School, including scholarship administration
- Leads data analysis for the department, making meaning of data to improve school-wide processes and student success
- Oversees general DOS operations and office management
- Assists prospective students with the appropriate information regarding the application process
- Processes and prepares applications for application review
- Runs reports and collects data necessary for Admissions and the Dean of Students, and for the Office of Field Education for their assignment of field placements of incoming students
- Assists incoming students with necessary information and steps for starting their program
