Claim your University Email and CNet ID

A CNet ID is required to apply for housing and financial aid, manage your personal information, and register for courses. You will continue to receive email correspondence about your next steps and opportunities through the email address you used to apply. However, you should check your UChicago account regularly for current student communications.
Here are some of the University systems that you will have access to with your CNET ID:
- MyCrownSchool.uchicago.edu is the internal portal for all Crown family School students. On this site, you can find course schedules, the alumni contact database, upcoming events, as well as other valuable resources. Note that many of the SSL courses will be added to the database later in the Spring and early Summer.
- MyUChicago Portal is the University portal you will access for a variety of resources, including registration.
- UChicago Student Employment website to apply for University-related jobs (both work-study and non-work study), keep in mind most fall jobs won't be posted until mid to late summer.
- University Email: Note that your CNET ID is also the prefix of your email address. Your CNET ID cannot be changed once you create it. However, you may set up an email alias, which you might use, for example, if you change your name and your CNET ID no longer represents your identity accurately.
- Also visit the CNET Overview site where you can find further information about the UChicago wireless network, the virtual private network (cVPN), and two-factor authentication (2FA).
Submit your Enrollment Deposit and Disclosure Form
- If you're ready to enroll this Summer or Autumn, submit your enrollment deposit and disclosure form to secure your spot in this year's incoming class. You can complete this step by returning to the application portal.
Submit Official Transcripts
- Submission of an official final transcript is a requirement for enrollment. The transcript must show the conferral of your undergraduate degree, the date of conferral, and your area of study. Transcripts must be sent directly to the Admissions Office from the registrar or records office of the institution granting the degree. Transcripts submitted directly from the student are not considered official documents issued by the degree-granting institution.
Note: Please do not submit your official transcripts until your degree has been conferred by your degree program's college or university.

Financial Aid
For U.S. citizens and permanent residents, in order to be eligible for federal financial aid such as state and federal grants, loans, and work study you need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. We encourage you to file your FAFSA early as some types of assistance are limited, and may have early deadlines. Our Federal School code is 001774. You can find more information at Graduate Financial Aid.
- We encourage you to complete the FAFSA even if you aren't sure you will qualify for financial aid.
- Please claim your CNet account to ensure that the Graduate Financial Aid Office can match your FAFSA to your student account.
- International applicants do not complete the FAFSA, but will submit the "Declaration and Certification of Finances" form during the application process.
An official award letter outlining your financial aid will be sent to you once your file has been reviewed and your eligibility has been determined. You can review your financial aid package on your My.UChicago portal.
Tuition Scholarship
You are reviewed for the Crown Family Schools merit-based scholarship (based on a holistic review of your application) during the application process. No additional paperwork or applications are necessary. Your award will be included in your admission letter.
External Scholarships
For additional outside scholarship sources and information, visit UChicago Grad. If you've been awarded an scholarship by an external organization, you can visit the Bursar's Office for instructions on how to set up third-party access.
Paying Your Bill
You may view your tuition bill online once you have access to your CNET ID. You will be able to access information about charges (tuition, fees, housing, etc.), payments (cash, check, etc.) and credits (financial aid, scholarships, etc.) in your My.UChicago student portal.
As a student or payer, you have several options to manage your student account:
Each of these options has enrollment and application procedures required for participation. These should be evaluated, selected, and executed each enrollment period.
Sign-up for Direct Deposit
The Office of the Bursar processes all Student Account Refunds. A refund occurs when credits on the student account are in excess of the current charges. Refunds are normally created by a financial aid disbursement intended for living expenses (i.e., loans), or the result of a cash over-payment.
All students are regularly reviewed for refund eligibility and are processed on a weekly basis. All students are encouraged to enroll in a Refund Disbursement Method as an incoming student in anticipation of a refund distributed during their academic career.
REFUND DISBURSEMENTS
Students are encouraged to enroll in Refund Disbursement Method before the first quarter of their matriculation begins.
Students are encouraged to enroll in Direct Deposit as this is the most efficient method of receiving a refund. Students may elect to have their refunds deposited directly to a U.S. checking or savings bank account.

Submit Immunization/Health Documents
The State of Illinois and the University of Chicago requires that all students participating in in-person classes, research, or activities in the U.S. are required to be vaccinated against the following illnesses/diseases. Course registration holds are placed for non-compliance with this requirement. These immunizations include:
- Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis
- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Meningococcal (for students entering the University under the age of 22)
- COVID-19
Additional information about which immunizations are required can be found at Immunization Requirements. Submission instructions can be found at UChicago Student Wellness. Please visit UChicago Forward to get the latest updates on the University's COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
Enroll/Opt Out of Student Health Insurance
- The University requires all registered students to carry adequate health insurance to cover, among other costs, hospitalization and outpatient diagnostic, testing and surgical procedures. Additionally, the insurance must cover medical care provided in the Chicago area for both emergency and routine, non-emergency medical situations (or, if the student will not be in Chicago, it must provide this coverage wherever the student will be residing and studying during the academic year). You can find additional information about the University of Chicago Student Health Insurance Policy at Student Insurance.
- All students admitted to the Crown Family School, with the exception of those admitted to the Extended Evening Social Work program and Part Time Social Sector Leadership program, will be automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan (U-SHIP). U-SHIP enrollment is required for all PhD students at the University of Chicago. As such, PhD students are not eligible to waive U-SHIP with comparable coverage. Individual student premiums will be paid for PhD students at no cost to them.
Students who prefer coverage under other health insurance programs must waive out the University’s plan. Students who are eligible to waive U-SHIP may review the 2022-23 comparable coverage checklist. The waiver process for Summer Quarter typically begins in April. The waiver process for Autumn Quarter typically begins in August.
The U-Pass is a program offered by the Chicago Transit Authority in which full-time students at participating institutions receive a card granting them unlimited rides on CTA trains and buses for a flat, quarterly fee.
Students are only able to opt in or out once per year before the Autumn quarter. Advanced Standing students will be able to opt in/out of the U-Pass for their academic year at the start of the Summer quarter.
The U-Pass may only be used on Pace buses if you have added your own fare to the card. U-Passes cannot be used on Metra at all, however, recently, the University has partnered with Metra to offer UChicago students 10 free rides. See more information about the Metra partnership here.
To help you stay on track, be sure to review the important dates related to enrollment, financial aid, and the academic calendar.
