Sylvia Camarillo

Sylvia is a native Texan who grew up in the Houston suburbs. Her experience as a first-generation college graduate has deeply shaped her passion for creating opportunities and supporting students. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from St. Edward’s University and a Master of Elementary Education from Relay Graduate School of Education.

Prior to joining the university, Sylvia spent two years teaching fourth grade with Teach For America and held operations and program management roles at Girls Inc. of Chicago and Momentum Education. Her work as an educator has remained one of the most rewarding parts of her career, and she looks forward to building meaningful relationships with students at UChicago and helping them develop the skills, confidence, and experiences needed to successfully enter the workforce.
