Seongbo Son is a PhD student at the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. His research focuses on housing instability, affordable housing, landlord behavior, financial trauma, and environmental justice. Using quantitative methods alongside community-based participatory research, he aims to shed light on structural inequities in urban housing, particularly at the intersections of race, class, gender, and age. Currently, Seongbo is involved in projects analyzing housing data to examine relationships between housing conditions, affordability, and socioeconomic factors, as well as investigating power dynamics in housing markets that impact low-income communities.
Seongbo has contributed as a social work intern with Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh, where he advanced initiatives promoting age-friendly practices. He has also worked with the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania as a Housing Research and Policy Associate, where he championed affordable housing access and led efforts to prevent evictions. Originally from South Korea, he holds a BA in Consumer and Child Studies and an MA in Consumer Science from Seoul National University, as well as an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh. Through his work, Seongbo is committed to advancing housing equity, financial inclusion, and fostering resilient, inclusive communities.
