Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to providing a positive academic experience for all students in the Crown Family School. We believe in a student-first philosophy, and offer support, advocacy, and advising--from the admissions process, through graduation, and beyond. Our office oversees: admissions and financial aid; registration; administration of academic and student life policies; monitoring of students’ academic progress; orientation and commencement; and support of career planning and professionalization activities. Detailed information regarding these areas is located on our website, and many documents and forms for students are posted on the MyCrownSchool portal.

   for Joint Degree Students
-- Student account advisor; troubleshoots questions related to tuition aid, financial aid, stipend/fees, outside funding and student accounts
-- Responsible for the administration and quality of all direct student academic services and general student supports
-- Implements policies and processes to support student success
-- Serves on the Dean's Senior Administrative Staff team for the Crown Family School
-- Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (IED) programming and advocacy

Kristen Reid Salomon, Assistant Dean of Students, Room W14

-- Provides academic advising, tracks individual progress toward degree completion, and offers guidance on course planning
   for Full-Time and Part-Time Day SW Students
-- Coordinates major activities such as orientation, course registration, convocation, the Hooding Ceremony, and scholarship
   renewal processes, among others
-- Serves as liaison for student accommodations between Student Disability Services, faculty, and staff
-- Offers general student advising and guidance on meaningful initiatives, programs, and organizations that enhance
   the Crown Family School student experience
-- Works with students to support them through personal matters and connect them to vital UChicago resources (i.e. health, financial, etc.)

Theodore Barnes, Assistant Director of Admissions, Room BW 13-B

-- Assists with the recruitment, admission, and matriculation of all Crown Family School students
-- Travels and recruits around the country to graduate fairs and welcomes and assists students during Visit days to campus
-- Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including counseling students and parents
   regarding the admission process
-- Can provide additional guidance for underrepresented student applicants

-- Provides comprehensive support and resources to PhD students
-- Maintains PhD student records and tracks individual progress towards degree completion
-- Manages day-to-day operations of PhD program including admissions support, orientation, course advising and registration,
   professional development, and graduation
