Aaron Gottlieb's scholarship centers on the criminal legal system and the ways that the system exacerbates racial and social inequity in the US. His research examines the causes and consequences of criminal legal system involvement on multiple levels and evaluates reform efforts to reduce the harms of mass incarceration. He approaches this work with a social justice and racial equity lens and incorporates lines of inquiry on structural issues such as social and economic disadvantage and racism. He is also a member of the 2024 class of Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR).

Alan Zarychta's research is designed to inform practice and policy to improve health care and other service delivery systems in under-resourced contexts. He shows that regions with decentralized healthcare systems can have improved performance in both population health outcomes, such as maternal and child health, as well as healthcare access, satisfaction, and equity. Important, he demonstrates how decentralization is accomplished matters, examining the strengths and characteristics of government-administered systems and NGO-administered systems, highlighting the importance of monitoring, and addressing the mechanisms of accountability in decentralized contexts.
