This symposium focuses on the development and evaluation of a school-based Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program for rural Chinese children in the Greater Bay Area. This research initiative is supported by the UChicago Global Yuen Grant.
Children in rural China face distinct challenges that impact their mental health and academic success. The symposium will explore how culturally sensitive, school-based SEL programs can address these issues.
Speakers will discuss the design of an SEL program specifically tailored for rural Chinese schools and present findings from a large-scale quasi-experimental study evaluating its effects on rural children’s mental well-being and educational outcomes.
