Coalition for Immigrant Mental Health's 4th Annual Convening
Mental Health Implications of Response to Migrants: The Role of Social Support in their Integration
Migrants gamble on the humanity of those who receive them at their point of destination and their reception and integration are inherently sociopolitical and socially embedded. Their mixed reception in destination communities highlights the critical role of social support, formal (agencies/organizations) and informal (volunteer groups) to migrant integration and mental health in these communities. Lack or low levels of social support are associated with psychological distress.
This convening will focus on the mental health implications of international and regional responses to migrants and those who work on their behalf and the critical role of formal and informal social support. It will highlight public programs, policies, and initiatives alongside grassroots efforts, community-driven actions, and migrant-led support networks. Additionally, the convening will address the importance of providing social support to those engaged in this critical work.
This event will begin with a keynote panel, followed by morning and afternoon breakout sessions.
