Bridging the Couple Chasm: Gottman Couples Therapy Level 1 Training

This training is an intensive overview of The Gottman Method, an evidenced-based approach to couples therapy. Participants will learn to identify key points in couples’ interactions when interventions will be most effective; strategies to help partners shift from attack to connection; methods to help couples solve their own problems; skills to empower couples to dialogue about their worst gridlocked issues; and tools to support couples’ friendship and intimacy.

This training is for mental health providers, allied professionals and clergy, students and interns, family clinic staff, professors/teachers of couples therapy, researchers in the social sciences, and employee assistance professionals. There are no prerequisites.

• PDF download of the 300-page Level 1 Clinical Training Manual which contains the core Gottman Method Couples Therapy assessments and interventions

• On-Demand training of the Drs. John and Julie Schwartz-Gottman’s presentation and videos of a recent Level 1 in your Gottman Institute account on their website.

• Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 Training Certificate of Completion

• Eligibility to continue to Level 2 Training

CEUs provided by the Crown Family School. Certificates for completing Level I awarded through The Gottman Relationship Institute.

About the Instructor

Michael McNulty has over thirty years experience in counseling and psychotherapy. He has extensive training in psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy. He blends this background with contemporary evidenced based approaches, such as The Gottman Method of Relationship Therapy. His clients, students and colleagues often characterize his style as humanistic and collaborative.

Michael was personally trained by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. In his work as a Senior Certified Gottman Relationship Therapist and Master Trainer, Michael conducts trainings for other professionals in The Gottman Method. Other topics of relationship expertise include infidelity, divorce, and pre-marital counseling.
