Executive Director, Definition Theatre

Neel McNeill leads Definition Theatre, a vibrant force in the arts for over a decade. Under Neel's leadership the theatre group celebrates stories created with, inspired by, and intended for people and communities of color. Definition Theatre strives to expand perspectives, stewards resources, and bridge the possibilities found at the intersection of art, innovation, and education. 

With Neel at the helm Definition Theatre works to emphasize collaboration in theater-making and raise awareness of career paths in the arts. Known for its bold and impactful productions the theater promotes equity, fosters empathy, and enhances the quality of life for community members by offering opportunities for creative, entrepreneurial, and cultural expression.

In 2024, Definition leased and equipped a storefront space in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. This move enabled Neel and her team to engage artists and expand programs in preparation for a permanent home in neighboring Woodlawn. The new theater space will be home to a community center and business incubator. 

Under the direction of Neel Definition Theatre aims to amplify and preserve BIPOC voices, promote social justice, and empower the next generation of artists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to drive positive progress through the transformative power of the arts.
