International Internships
Students in Crown Family School's Global Social Development Practice programs participate in substantive summer internships and field placements that inform their social work education. GSDP Program of Study students engage in meaningful summer internships doing both clinical and administrative projects before returning to Chicago for their second-year placements. GSDP Certificate students, on the other hand, live abroad for six months while completing their second-year field placements. In both programs, students take courses at Crown Family School before and after their time abroad to integrate international experiences into their social work practice.

Rebecca is an intern at Programa Velasco, an organization that provides trauma-informed social services to women and families surviving poverty and community violence in San Ramon, El Salvador. Her responsibilities include grant-writing, creating curriculum materials, and research support.

Saint Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS)
Cairo, Egypt
Saint Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of refugees in Egypt and making their rights a reality through client-centered programs. Most of the clients/participants are from African countries such as Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan. At StARS, Amy is providing support to the Unaccompanied Children and Youth section of the Psychosocial Department. This work includes running focus groups, developing training materials and manuals for StARS staff, and assisting with the Youth Advisory Board, among other things.

Sexual Violence Research Initiative
Pretoria, South Africa
Stephanie will intern at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI), which aims to increase awareness and promote research on sexual violence and its linkages to other forms of violence to influence policy and practice, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. She will write a briefing paper on the impact of SVRI grant-making among organizations in the field, research feminist approaches to combatting violence against women in low- and middle-income countries, and conduct qualitative data analysis on emerging VAW research trends and topics.

Jeniffer is working at the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME), an organization dedicated to supporting, empowering, and upholding the rights of migrant workers in Singapore. At HOME, Jeniffer's primary task will be using case data to conduct a comparative research project on the employment and living conditions of migrant workers in Singapore, Korea, and Japan.

Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA)
Manila, Philippines
The Center for Migrant Advocacy is an organization that promotes the protection of the rights of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. Its goal is to improve social, economic and political conditions of migrant Filipino families through policy advocacy, information dissemination, networking, capacity-building, and direct assistance. CMA's mission is to pursue a world where migration is not a necessity, but an option borne out of one's free will. During his time at CMA, Kevin will help write a report critiquing the shortfall in data collection procedures by the Philippines government which does not call attention to the daily challenges that OFWs encounter.

Programa Casa Refugiados
Mexico City, Mexico
Kira is an intern at Programa Casa Refugiados, a non-governmental organization in Mexico City that defends the human rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced persons, and, in partnership with United Nations and Mexican government agencies, helps them find safety and resettlement in their new home of Mexico City. Kira is working on the team that helps personas en movimiento ("persons in movement") integrate into Mexican society. Her responsibilities include welcoming PEMs, processing and providing documents so they can pursue employment and education, assisting in workshops, and interviewing PEMs requesting domestic relocation.

The Mindulle School is a private, non-public, specialized school recognized by Incheon City. They serve adult learners across Incheon school districts with a variety of educational needs and disabilities including traumatic brain injuries, autism, genetic disorders, and intellectual and developmental disorders. This special school provides ongoing monitoring, specialized cognitive training, and intensive interventions in a positive caring and nurturing environment. Yohan will work at this school, whose aim is to assist students with disabilities in becoming active, productive members of a community.

Fjolla is an intern at the Ministry of Public Administration in Pristina, Kosovo, where she is working alongside the Director of the Department for Reform and European Integration. Her tasks include organizing and coordinating across different public institutions to identify progress, problems, and gaps in the implementation of strategic documents that align various institutions with European Integration objectives. Fjolla also drafts reports in English to highlight the progress and challenges in implementing strategic documents dealing with the Public Administration Reform.

Heartland Alliance International works at the intersection of healing and justice. In Cali, Colombia, HAI trains community leaders to provide mental health and psychosocial services to survivors of violence and displacement. At HAI, Anne will provide support on organizational capacity in monitoring and evaluation, development, and gender mainstreaming to complement HAI's work with communities and other stakeholders.
Marilyn Sethi

Marilyn is interning with the Akshaya Patra Foundation UK, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of childhood hunger and its effects on classroom achievement and school dropout rates throughout India and the UK. She is assisting in managing delivery schedules and collaborating with childcare programs for the Beat the Hunger UK Program that serves 2,226 meals to children vulnerable to food insecurity during the holiday season.
Sidra Siddiqui

Paris, France
Sidra is working for the UNESCO headquarters, whose mission is to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. She is on the Inclusion and Rights team focusing on the promotion of human rights, gender equality, and social cohesion in rapidly urbanizing societies. Some of her responsibilities include tracking progress of field office initiatives, writing policy briefs and proposals, organizing capacity building programs, and conducting research projects on urban migrant inclusion. She is also working on the implementation of UNESCO's inclusive cities initiative, which seeks to ensure the accountability of cities to the needs of migrants such as hate crime responsiveness, equitable housing policy, and anti-discriminatory health practices.
