Reimagining Mental Health Supports for Migrant Arrivals in Chicago

Dr. Hilado and colleagues from Lurie Children's Hospital and the Coalition for Immigrant Mental Health have developed and implemented a capacity-building curriculum for non-mental health professionals supporting migrant arrivals who were forcibly relocated to Chicago under TX Gov. Abbott's Operation Lone Star Busing Program. The project in partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Chicago Department of Family Support Services, and other community partners to support a city/state mental health plan for asylum-seeking migrant arrivals. The efficacy of the community-level intervention is being evaluated using a mixed-methods design including post-training evaluations, surveys, interviews with frontline staff, and interviews city/state leaders.
