This workshop satisfies the cultural competence requirement for social workers.

  • The differences between cultural competence, cultural humility, and cultural responsiveness;
  • The six things culturally responsive service providers do;
  • Addressing microaggressions, micro-insults, and micro-invalidations in the clinical relationship;
  • Viewing evidence-based practices from a culturally competent lens;
  • Integrating cultural competence and evidence-based practices; and
  • Trauma informed culturally competent practice.

By the end of this presentation participants will be able to:

  • Define cultural competence, cultural humility, and culturally responsive counseling;
  • Articulate the six things culturally responsive service providers do;
  • Address microaggressions in the clinical relationship;
  • Analyze evidence-based practices from a culturally responsive informed lens;
  • Integrate cultural responsiveness and evidence-based practices; and
  • Utilize a model which integrates culture and trauma informed care.
