James is pursuing their PhD with an interest in studying social work practice, broadly. More specifically, James focuses on the use of social media and other digital technologies in providing care. James is interested in the role of space and place in social work practice for queer and trans people of color, stemming from their community- and school-based practice experience working with black and Latine queer youth. Their interest in social media and spaces of digital care has been developed throughout their PhD, and their dissertation explores how queer social workers of color use social media as both a space and a tool for providing care.
