The AM Degree

The University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice awards an AM degree, artium magister (master of arts), for its two Master's-level degree programs.

Our Master's Degree in Social Work, Social Policy, and Social Administration (SW) program provides an educational and experiential foundation that combines direct social work practice with policy development, interdisciplinary research, and social science theory. The comprehensive and interdisciplinary nature of the AM degree program translates into greater flexibility and choice in your future career. The AM awarded to the SW program is equivalent to an MSW.

Our Master's Degree in Social Sector Leadership and Nonprofit Management (SSL) gives students the necessary knowledge base and skills to lead social sector organizations, particularly those in the fields of health and human services, community organizing and development, policy implementation, and advocacy. The AM awarded to the SSL program is not equivalent to an MSW.
