Learn about relevant and controversial issues social workers are dealing with in hospital and healthcare settings. This course introduces students to psychosocial issues related to healthcare provision and some of the issues and tasks common among health social workers. These include understanding the determinants of health behavior, working on interdisciplinary teams, and recognizing biases in medicine and how they affect social work practice. Value and ethical conflicts inherent in clinical practice in health care are emphasized, with special attention to issues related to disadvantaged populations.
