Network for College Success: Combining Research and Practice
Armed with freshman On-Track data, and new strategies, Roderick worked with CPS principals to form the Network for College Success (NCS), a structured model designed to advance lasting school improvement.
The model is based on the understanding that educators want to improve outcomes, but need the tools, skills, and strategies to forge real and lasting reform. Through leadership development, teacher coaching, access to and use of research, and collaborative learning opportunities, NCS builds capacity among educators to transform their schools using actionable On-Track data. Its success demonstrates what can happen when researchers, policymakers, and practitioners collaborate to make systemic changes.
Results
Graduation rates improved from 57% in 2006 to 74% in 2016
On-Track rates improved from 61% in 2006 to 88% in 2016
On-Track rates increased from 47%to 81% among African American males and from 55% to 84% among Latino males
College enrollment (in 2 and 4 year institutions combined) increased from 46% in 2005 to 62% in 2015
Enrollment in 4-year colleges increased from 30% to 44% over the same time period
The rate of freshman students not only being On-Track but having a GPA of 3.0 or better increased from 22% in 2009 to 40% in 2016
