The following are announcements for the Crown Family School Community from the School:

December 23, 2021

Dear Students,

We are writing to follow the message from Provost Lee and Executive Vice President Callow-Wright. We encourage you to read the message carefully, as it contains important information regarding plans for Winter Quarter.

Important, the University is delaying the start of Winter Quarter by one week—to January 10, 2022. Additionally, the University is moving to a remote-only instructional format for the first two weeks of the quarter. The plan is to return to in-person instruction in Week 3 of Winter Quarter, beginning on January 24.

Weekend intensive courses are the exception and they will meet remotely as scheduled on January 8 and January 9.

In line with the University delaying the start of Winter Quarter, field placements will also be postponed by one week—to January 10, 2022. Notification will be sent to our agency partners and field supervisors to share this update. Field hours will be credited to students for the delayed week so there will be no loss in hour accrual. Upon resumption of field, students are encouraged to please follow agency specific protocols and guidelines for re-entry. Should any host institution suspend or terminate field placements due to challenges with the COVID-19 surge, a plan for supplemental hour accrual will be developed by the field office. All field seminars in January will be moved to remote-only instructional format, as well as the 2022 Concentration Year Field Placement Informational Sessions for first year students. If you have any questions or concerns with field placements, please contact Director of Field Education Mel Lamagna at

As announced in this message and clarified in today's communication, the University will require students and employees to receive a COVID-19 booster shot once they are eligible. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to get your booster as soon as possible.

We have far more tools for mitigating the impact of COVID-19 than when the pandemic began. Although we are taking these temporary measures as a precaution, the University greatly values in-person instruction, and we are committed to returning to it as soon as conditions allow. We will continue to monitor public health guidelines and make adjustments as needed.

Please note, the University is closed for winter recess from December 23-January 3 and Crown Family School staff are unavailable during this period. We will address concerns upon our return and will help support students through this continued challenging time. Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility.

Best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season!
