Education and Leadership
CHAS prepares the next generation of climate-health leaders through applied, community-connected learning. Our programs are interdisciplinary, practically oriented, and designed to prepare people not just to understand climate-health inequities, but to act on them.
Students across the University of Chicago engage with CHAS through:
- Research assistantships supporting active community-engaged projects
- Practicum placements with community partners on Chicago's South and West Sides
- Fellowships supporting applied, community-rooted projects
Learning is grounded in real-world implementation and policy impact, connecting classroom preparation to frontline practice.
CHAS hosts the annual Davis Lecture Series, bringing leading scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders to the University of Chicago for public conversations on climate, health, and equity. The series is designed to bridge academic research and civic practice, connecting UChicago's intellectual community with the organizations and movements working on the front lines of climate-health inequity.
Regular CHAS programming includes:
- Research symposia and policy workshops
- Community learning sessions hosted in partnership with Sankofa and other community partners
- The annual CHAS Launch and flagship public events
CHAS also contributes to major national climate and health convenings, including the Aspen Ideas Climate Chicago Conference, where CHAS co-leads the Health Track.
In partnership with the Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy (GPHAP) and other academic programs, CHAS supports training pathways that build a diverse, community-rooted climate-health workforce prepared to work across disciplines and sectors.
